Identity (ID) theft is a rapidly growing worldwide problem. When you are the victim of identity theft, your personal information is used by someone else. As a result of having your identity stolen, the thief may:

  • Use your debit/credit card or bank account to make unauthorized transactions
  • Open a credit account or borrow money in your name, without your authorization

If you are a victim of identity theft, you:

  • may not be able to borrow money or open up charge card accounts because your credit record has been adversely affected;
  • may pay more for certain items because your credit score has been affected (car insurance, mortgages);
  • may incur significant expenses (in both time and money) to clear your credit rating

ITS, in association with the WCMC Privacy Office, monitors and protects all systems to prevent intrusion and identity theft. In the event of a security incident, ITS provides an end-to-end response to assist those affected by the incident.
