Better cell coverage around campus

ITS has worked with Verizon to improve our cell phone coverage around campus with a new distributed antenna system. Currently, Verizon Wireless customers should notice much better signal in both the Belfer Research Building and Weill Greenberg Center, with improved signal to come to other areas on campus.

How we're improving cell coverage

Verizon has installed a distributed antenna system, also known as DAS. A DAS brings better signal to isolated spots with poor coverage through a network of small antennas throughout the building. ITS worked with Verizon during installation, which was done at Verizon's expense to provide optimal cellular service to the vast majority of Verizon users on campus. Other carriers may follow suit, but there are no plans at this time.

Are there plans to expand better cellular service to other WCM buildings?

We expect better cell phone signal at 1300 York by the end of May. At this time, Verizon has not committed to extending this service to other campus buildings.

Issues with cellular reception?

We are still testing the cell reception at both Belfer and Weill Greenberg while Verizon expands its installation to the main buildings along 1300 York. If you notice any significant changes with your cellular reception, please contact Verizon by calling 800-922-0204 or dialing *611 on your mobile device.
