New "Wormable" security flaw requires reboot for Windows XP, 7, and 2003 devices

Microsoft recently announced security updates for devices running Windows XP, 7, and 2003 after discovering a “wormable” security issue that could become a major malware threat. If not resolved, an unauthorized user could access a device running any of the aforementioned operating systems and install programs, change data, or create new accounts with full user rights.

While Microsoft has not observed any evidence of attacks against this flaw, ITS will be patching devices with these operating systems to prevent potential security issues.

What do you need to do?

Later today, users with devices running these operating systems will see a notification on their machines to restart their computer. This reboot will install a patch to fix the security flaw. Please restart your computer once you see this notification:

Please note that this security flaw does not affect more current operating systems, like Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2012 R2, or Windows Server 2012.
