What you should know about Apple’s new macOS Mojave

Earlier this week, Apple released its new operating system, macOS Mojave. ITS has been testing the new macOS to ensure its compatibility with WCM standard applications.

Should I upgrade to the new macOS Mojave 10.14?

We highly recommend waiting to upgrade due to some issues reported in Apple community forums. If you still want to upgrade or have already upgraded, please review these important notes:

  • Schrödinger applications: The latest Schrödinger release, 2018-3, is NOT compatible with macOS Mojave. We expect the next release in Q4 2018 to be compatible. Do not update if your work depends on using Schrödinger applications.
  • Office 2016: You MUST update to the latest version of Office before you update to Mojave. To do this, open any Office app (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.), go to the Help menu and choose “Check for Updates.”
  • Citrix Receiver: If the application doesn’t start, please launch it manually before opening via myApps.
  • Other applications: If you use third-party applications not supported by WCM, the website Roaring Apps is a good source to check for compatibility.

If you still decide to update to macOS Mojave, please note the following:

Do not store your documents on iCloud. When you initially restart after installing the update, your computer may prompt you to keep your documents in iCloud. ITS believes that this presents a risk for inadvertent sharing of Protected Health Information (PHI) and other confidential data. Please answer NO to this option. Also, keep in mind that the free space allocation in iCloud is 5GB, and you will be asked to pay for additional storage.
