How to set up multi-factor authentication for Apple Mail for alumni mail account

If you use Apple Mail for your Mac computer, you can easily add your WCM alumni account. You only need to follow these instructions once in order to set up your account. Please note that you will need to follow the instructions to set up multi-factor authentication to your alumni account first before attempting the below instructions. Click the headings to skip to the sections needed.

1. You will receive an email from Microsoft with account creation details. Email will include username and temporary password.

2. Click Sign in to Office 365. Sign in with temporary password.

 

3. Click Next.

4. For “Step 1: How should we contact you?”, choose mobile app from the drop down. Select Receive notifications for verification. Then click Set up.

 

5. Download Microsoft Authenticator on your smartphone. Launch the app and agree to the privacy statement. Tap “Scan a QR code” and scan the QR on the O365 portal. Your alumni account will appear on the Microsoft Authenticator app once scanned.

6. Go back to the O365 portal and click Next. The blue Set up button will now be grayed out since you successfully configured authenticator. Click Next. You will receive a test push notification on your smartphone to verify Microsoft Authenticator is working.

7. Complete “Step 3”, setup a phone number as back up in case you lose access to the mobile app. You will receive a text message with a verification code. Enter the code, click Verify and click Finish once the account has been verified.

8. You will now be logged into your alumni e-mail account. Your account is ready and can be added to your Outlook client or Apple Mail app.

Set up alumni email in Apple Mail app

  1. Go to System Preferences. Click Internet Accounts.

2. Click Microsoft Exchange. Enter your name and email address when prompted. Click Sign in.

3. Click Sign in and enter the password to your alumni email account. Click Sign in and approve the sign-in from the Microsoft Authenticator app.

4. Accept the permissions requested.

5. Choose the apps you want to sync with the alumni account then click done. You are now finished and can access your email from the Mail app.
