What’s happening with Epic and NYP?
As many of you know, NYP, Columbia, and Cornell started down the path of a joint EpicCare EMR more than a decade ago. Plans changed and the other institutions pursued Allscripts, but now they have reconsidered. The current plan is for all three institutions to share the WCM Epic system, including the regional hospitals. This will give a unified patient record across all the institutions, enable richer data and research opportunities for investigators, and deliver a simplified user experience for all providers. The project is still being planned and will take years to implement across all the locations. We are working hard on the governance and policy structures to ensure WCM’s requirements will still get proper priority in the shared structure, but we are hopeful that a formal launch can be announced later this year or soon thereafter.
