How do I get started with Copilot Chat?

To use Copilot, visit copilot.cloud.microsoft and sign in with your CWID and password to access the protected version. You can view our step-by-step guide in myHelpdesk on how to use Copilot, as well as our FAQ for query ideas. Copilot is currently accessible in your internet browser (with full features available in Microsoft Edge), as well as iOS and Android mobile apps. If you have any issues accessing Copilot, please note it may take up to 24 hours for the application to officially enroll your WCM account.   

Is my data secure when using Copilot Chat?

Yes, your data is secure. Microsoft employs robust security measures to ensure that your information is protected while using Copilot Chat. 

Can I use Copilot Chat to interact with other Microsoft services?

Integration with other Microsoft apps, like Excel or PowerPoint, requires a paid M365 license. You can request one using the Microsoft Software Order Guide in myHelpdesk. 

Can I use Copilot Chat on multiple devices?

Yes, you can use Copilot Chat on your desktop, laptop, and mobile devices, ensuring you have access to assistance wherever you go. 

What languages does Copilot Chat support?

Copilot Chat supports multiple languages, making it accessible to users around the world. You can check the specific language options in the settings. 

Can I customize the responses from Copilot Chat?

While you can't customize the responses directly, Copilot Chat learns from your interactions to provide more personalized and relevant assistance over time. 

What is the difference between Microsoft Copilot Chat and the full version that integrates with work data?

  • Microsoft Copilot Chat is an AI-powered assistant that helps with various tasks and queries. It uses the OpenAI ChatGPT engine but does not train the model. It can be accessed on desktop (Windows and Mac) and mobile devices (iOS and Android). The key features include instant assistance, boosting productivity, accessing information from various devices, collaborating efficiently, and enhancing user experience through natural language processing. 

  • The full version that integrates with work data, Microsoft 365 Copilot, offers additional capabilities by leveraging the Microsoft Graph API. This integration allows for deeper interaction with other Microsoft services and applications, providing more comprehensive data analysis, advanced collaboration features, and enhanced automation capabilities. The full version is designed for more complex and integrated use cases within the Microsoft ecosystem 

 

What is the difference between Copilot Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot?

Copilot Chat is the secure AI assistant included with a Microsoft 365 business subscription, while Microsoft 365 Copilot adds deeper capabilities across Microsoft 365 apps and can ground prompts in work data when licensed. Microsoft’s documentation explains that with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, users can switch Copilot Chat between work and web grounding, while app experiences like Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams support task-specific help directly inside those apps.  

Is Copilot Chat included in M365 Copilot, or do users need a separate license?

Copilot Chat is included with a your Microsoft 365 A5 subscription at no additional cost.  

What does a full Microsoft 365 Copilot license add?

Microsoft 365 Copilot license allows prompts to be grounded in work data available to the user, including documents, emails, chats, and other Microsoft Graph-connected content. Microsoft also documents Copilot capabilities across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Teams for drafting, summarizing, analyzing, meeting recap, and related tasks.  

Can Copilot see everyone’s information across the institution?

Microsoft 365 Copilot presents only the data each individual user can access by using the same underlying access controls already used in Microsoft 365 services.  

Are prompts and responses in Copilot used to train Microsoft’s foundation models?

Microsoft explicitly states that prompts and responses in Microsoft 365 Copilot aren’t used to train foundation models.  

Should users trust Copilot output without checking it?

No. Microsoft says Copilot responses may be inaccurate, incorrect, or out of date, and advises users to verify information.  

Can Copilot help with common academic and administrative work?

Yes. Microsoft’s documented scenarios include drafting emails, summarizing documents, analyzing spreadsheets, recapping Teams meetings, generating meeting notes, and organizing work across the day.  

Are there education-oriented Copilot resources that fit a medical college environment?

Yes. Microsoft provides education-oriented resources for Copilot Notebooks and the Copilot Notebook Study Guide, including onboarding guidance for learners, educators, and IT administrators, plus privacy and responsible AI guidance.
