Certain applications, often in research areas, require sustained bursts of computation that can only be provided by simultaneously harnessing multiple dedicated servers that are not always fully utilized. High Performance Computing (sometimes referred to as "grid computing") removes the limitations of traditional dedicated hosting by providing a highly scalable cluster hosting platform (shared multiple high-performance servers, storage and memory) to provide significantly faster response times in a robust and fault-tolerant setting.
