Construction in Library Stacks

The Samuel J. Wood Library has partnered with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) Library to provide space for its staff and collections. As a result, construction has already begun and will take place throughout 2024 to build a new space within Stack 1 of the Wood Library.

How will this affect you?

Construction will take place in two phases:

  • Phase 1: Jan. 2024 – June 2024 (carpet removal, shifting current collection, shelf removal, painting)
  • Phase 2: July 2024 – Dec. 2024 (construction phase to build walls and office space)

Depending on the work being done in Stack 1, Stack 2 may also be impacted. Library patrons may experience loud noises, strong scents from painting in both Stacks, restricted access to Stack 1, and service disruptions as our library team works to shift our current collection out of the affected area.

What do you need to do?

The library will be open and services will continue during the construction. We highly recommend using other study/quiet spaces instead of Stack 1 and Stack 2, including the Commons area, Sunken Reading Room, and 24/7 Study Space. The SMARTDesk and Cornell Store will remain open.
