On May 31, 2028, ITS will be retiring the file sharing service as we reach end of support with our vendor and our infrastructure reaches end of life. As a result, ITS is assessing our existing file shares and exploring alternative solutions.
We know that your file share is an integral part of your day-to-day work and want to plan with you well in advance to find a better, potentially cost-saving option to store your data.
What to expect
ITS has started taking steps to prepare and collaborate with departments to meet the May 2028 deadline. Here’s what to expect over the next several months:
During the summer, ITS sent surveys to several file share owners to gather information on how their file shares are being utilized. For those that responded to our survey, we are currently reviewing the results and will be following up to discuss potential alternatives for data storage.
We will continue our outreach to departments to assess current usage, discuss migration options, and identify potential cost savings opportunities.
More details with additional guidance, timelines, and support resources will be sent in the coming weeks.
What you can do to prepare
ITS recommends reviewing your file share content (folders and files) and deleting any data that is no longer needed to ensure that only necessary data is moved to a new solution.
