This month, Apple will be releasing their new operating system, macOS Catalina. ITS has been testing the new macOS to ensure its compatibility with WCM standard applications.
Should I upgrade my work computer to the new macOS Catalina 10.15?
We highly recommend waiting to upgrade due to some issues reported in Apple community forums. If you still want to upgrade or have already upgraded, please review these important notes:
- 32-Bit Apps: 32-Bit apps are not supported on macOS 10.15 and will not run. Find out if you have a 32-Bit app installed.
- Microsoft Office 2016: You must update to the latest version of Office before you update to Catalina. Learn how you can update your Office applications.
- Citrix Receiver: This application is 32-Bit and will not work on macOS 10.15. Please install Citrix Workspace version 19.10.0.13 as this is the 64-Bit update to Citrix Receiver.
- EndNoteX9:You must update to the latest version of EndNoteX9 before you upgrade to Catalina. To do this, click on EndnoteX9 on the menu bar when you have the application open and choose “Check for Updates.”
Catalina and document storage
ITS does not recommend storing your documents in iCloud. When you initially restart your computer after installing the update, you may see a prompt to keep your documents in iCloud. ITS believes that this presents a risk for inadvertent sharing of Protected Health Information (PHI) and other confidential data. Please answer NO to this option.
