Apple will release its new operating system OS X 10.10, also known as Yosemite, on Thursday, October 16. ITS will be supporting this new operating system, which comes pre-installed on systems purchased after October 16.
What's new in OS X Yosemite
Yosemite will provide Mac users with an updated interface, including streamlined toolbars, cleaner dock, Notification Center updates, and changes to certain apps. Additionally, you will be able to make/receive iPhone calls and text messages from your Mac, and interchange tasks from your Mac to your other iOS devices.
A more complete preview of Yosemite is available on Apple's website.
Recommendation for Yosemite upgrade
At this time, ITS does not recommend upgrading to Yosemite until we can verify that all supported software and services are compatible. With any operating system upgrade, there can be initial incompatibilities with ITS-supported software and services, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Exchange email and calendar. Please be aware that OS X Yosemite may be incompatible with non-standard WCMC software you have installed, such as EndNote, FileMaker Pro, MATLAB, and others. Please confirm with the vendor that your non-standard software will work with OS X Yosemite.
ITS will announce when we have completed our testing and it is acceptable to upgrade. For non-standard software such as EndNote, you can visit the vendor's website or find information on this site and search for the application in question: http://roaringapps.com.
Please note: It is customary for various vendors to take 30 to 60 days before they fully support their products upon release of a new operating system.
