What you should know about the Apple iPhone 7 and new iOS

Earlier this week, Apple announced that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and an updated operating system, iOS 10, will be released next week.  ITS has been rigorously testing this new version of iOS to ensure its compatibility with applications used at WCM. Before purchasing an iPhone 7 or upgrading your device’s operating system, please read our findings below.

Should I upgrade to the iPhone 7 or update my current device to iOS 10?

Yes, with the following exceptions:

  • Clinical apps, such as Epic Canto or Haiku:  ITS is still completing its testing for both apps. Currently, both applications can launch without crashing, but ITS cannot guarantee they work seamlessly in iOS 10 at this time. If you rely heavily on them, please wait until testing can be completed and results are relayed to the college.
  • WebEx: ITS has found that WebEx often crashes when launched directly from a Calendar link. You can successfully launch it directly, but it sometimes drops the audio of a meeting.

If you use a third-party application at WCM and are unsure of whether it will be compatible, please visit the Roaring Apps site for information. Please note that it typically takes vendors approximately 30-60 days before they fully support their products upon the release of a new operating system.
