Get an official WCM website for your lab

ITS offers a special Research Lab website service for researchers looking for a polished, professional online presence.

Many faculty research labs build websites to showcase their work, frequently using third party platforms like Wix or Squarespace. This led to sites that were not properly branded, didn’t follow institutional best practices, and that didn’t integrate well with institutional systems.

To address this, the Web Communications group built the WCM Research Lab Drupal distribution, a customized version of our institutional content management platform pre-configured for research labs. The platform itself is free of charge.  The only cost is a nominal annual fee to the external vendor that hosts the site. Site managers are provided sample content areas and guidance on how to best structure the site.

Aside from a professional branded presence, these lab websites offer a number of features, including:

  • Content areas for information about the lab, research projects, a lab team directory, publications (with PubMed integration), and news updates
  • Drag and drop updating of text and photo content in real time
  • Single sign-on for authentication for site managers
  • Responsive design architecture for optimized view on phones and tablets
  • Full supported architecture with improvements and enhancements as part of our regular release cycle
