As announced in September, Cornell University Library plans to unbundle its “Big Deal” package with publishing company Elsevier, which includes the ScienceDirect journal package, beginning in January 2027. Cornell licenses a considerable amount of online content from Elsevier, and it is no longer a sustainable option for our campus to maintain this “big deal.” Cornell will continue to license content from Elsevier on a title-by-title basis, and any online content that is no longer available for instant access can still be requested through the Library.
Join Cornell University Library representatives on Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in Uris Auditorium, Weill Cornell Medicine, and via Zoom.
This session will include background information on the rising costs of access to these journals, timeline on unbundling, as well as our plans for engagement with campus stakeholders during this process. For more information, including other Town Hall options, please visit our online journal transition webpage.
