On May 18, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) is officially replacing the old PubMed database with a newly redesigned version. After this date, the new PubMed interface will be the default option when you access the site.
PubMed Enhancements
The updated PubMed database will include new features like:
- A more modern-looking search interface
- Mobile device adaptability
- Scrolling search results
What’s happening to the legacy PubMed database?
NLM will continue to run the legacy system in parallel for a short period of time after the new PubMed becomes the default. During this time, both sites will continue to receive updates to citation data. The legacy PubMed site will eventually be retired, announced via banners on the legacy site.
Most of the search features you use in the legacy version of PubMed are found in the newer version (e.g., MeSH headings, advanced search building, single citation matcher, etc.), but may be found under different menus or in different areas of the website. Some of the functions and look of the new PubMed may change as the NLM continues to receive user feedback.
