SMARTFest attracts unprecedented 1,100+ visits

ITS has more than 1,100 visits during our 3rd Annual SMARTFest on Tuesday, February 23. Throughout the day, attendees were able to visit various booths in the Samuel J. Wood Library to learn about the different technologies and services offered on campus, ask questions, and see some on-the-spot demonstrations.

This year, we had more vendor participation than ever before, with experts on hand to work with faculty, staff, and students on finding study, research, and work solutions.

Attendees were also able to enjoy great food, giveaways, and a raffle, which featured prizes like medical references, Fitbits, Kindle Fires, and an HP Notebook, all donated on behalf of our event sponsors. Dr. Curtis Cole, ITS’ Chief Information Officer, also offered some highlights about technologies in store for the WCM community. This includes future upgrades to Weill Research Gateway, Box cloud storage for Microsoft Office, new website management options for labs, and more (see full video for more services that will be offered this year).

The inaugural SMARTFest was held as a celebration of a successful first year of the SMARTDesk in the Library Commons. Since then, SMARTFest has evolved into a larger outreach to assist the WCM community with solutions to day-to-day tasks and major initiatives.

Thank you to our sponsors!

Weekly workshops on patient data for research

Interested in using electronic patient data for research? Join us for our weekly workshops hosted by Architecture for Research Computing in Health (ARCH) and the Clinical and Translational Science Center (CTSC)!

Every Thursday, presenters from ARCH and CTSC discuss and demonstrate the many tools available to investigators to assist them in obtaining electronic patient data, including:

  • REDCap – Used to collect survey and case report form data
  • SUPER REDCap – Used to auto-populate case report forms with electronic health record (EHR) data
  • i2b2 – Used to query EHR data to discover patient cohorts of interest for studies
  • EHR Reporting – Used to obtain detailed clinical data sets from Epic and Allscripts (aka Eclipsys)

The workshops are scheduled every Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon in the Library Collaboration Room, located at 1300 York Avenue in the Samuel J. Wood Library. If you’re unable to attend, don’t worry! Information is available online at arch.weill.cornell.edu or via email at arch-support@med.cornell.edu.

LastPass comes to WCM

You know your passwords should look like this: %b96TO5JkW#x5, but how are you going to remember that? WCM ITS wants to make it easier for you to create strong passwords and keep them safe. We’ve teamed up with LastPass, one of the most highly-rated password managers out there, to offer you a complementary account.

LastPass remembers and autofills your passwords, saving you time. It will also generate strong, unique passwords for all of your accounts – whether they are for WCM or personal. Just create an account with your Weill Cornell credentials, then create a personal account with your personal email info, and link them together for a seamless experience. And don’t worry, ITS can’t see any of your password info. It’s all kept locked up in the LastPass vault, visible only to you.

LastPass is an optional service for WCM users, but we highly recommend it. Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming announcement with instructions on how to create your WCM LastPass account and get started.

Learn more about LastPass at Tech Tuesday on March 15 at 12 noon in the Library Collaboration Room – we’ll cover the WCM enrollment process, and a LastPass rep will demo the tool.  You can also learn more about why to use LastPass in their helpful video Why Use LastPass?
