Library hosts over 600 SMARTFest attendees

More than 600 visitors attended the 2nd Annual SMARTFest, sponsored by Information Technologies & Services (ITS) and the Samuel J. Wood Library, on Wednesday, February 25. Throughout the day, attendees were able to visit various booths in the library to learn about the different technologies offered on campus, ask questions, and see some on-the-spot demonstrations.

Attendees were also able to enjoy great food and a raffle, which featured a brand new Apple iPad as the grand prize. Prior to the raffle, Dr. Curtis L. Cole, ITS Chief Information Officer, spoke briefly at the event about major services available to WCMC faculty, staff, and students, like Microsoft Lync, Office 365, and lynda.com.

The inaugural SMARTFest, hosted in 2013, was held as a celebration of a successful first year of the SMARTDesk in the Library Commons. The SMARTDesk offers assistance with both IT- and library-related services. However, this year's event included a much larger outreach to the WCMC community about how IT and library services can help users with their day-to-day tasks, whether they are faculty, staff, or students.

"The employee engagement around SMARTFest this year facilitated teamwork across the department. This teamwork enabled us to present our services to our customers with the excellence fitting both ITS and Weill Cornell," said Terrie Wheeler, Director of the Samuel J. Wood Library. "Many vendors have commented that while they attend these shows often, this was one of the best organized with greatest impact, and this is a credit to all of the ITS and library staff who participated. We now are more than a name behind an e-mail, and were able to solve several customers problems on site."
