New school year, new Education Center

This past August, students and faculty were able to kick off the new school year in brand new classrooms. The renovation of several classrooms in the B Building of the Weill Education Center is part of a multi-year initiative to enhance the student experience. ITS has played a major role in overseeing renovations in the Education Center to ensure state-of-the-art technology in our classrooms.

The new classrooms feature teaching stations with iPad hookups so that teachers can project presentations and lectures on multiple recessed screens installed throughout the room. Many of the classroom walls are composed of writable glass as a sophisticated and attractive white-board alternative.

Students and faculty can also change the setup of the room. Depending on what they need to accomplish that day, they can utilize a flexible desk configuration to create large tables or mini-pods, or use wall dividers to separate the large classrooms into four smaller rooms. As an added bonus, the rooms were designed to have better acoustics, mitigating noise from the street outside and adjacent rooms.

In addition to the intelligent classroom layouts, ITS made sure that classroom technology was top notch. Each renovated classroom is outfitted with various audiovisual controls and multiple outlets with USB-ports to charge devices. All computers in the Education Center labs and classrooms were upgraded to iMac 27” Retina 5K Displays with connections to the wall-mounted displays using AppleTV.
