Upcoming storage quotas for Box and OneDrive

Starting July 1, 2026, WCM is introducing a soft quota on the amount of free storage offered to students, faculty, and staff. This will allow ITS to moderate and encourage thoughtful use of cloud storage and manage the rate of growth of cloud storage at our organization.

Beginning on July 1, 2026, the following storage soft quotas will apply:

Soft quota is not a data cap. You will be able to continue to store data amounts that exceed the soft quota. However, ITS will begin charging per TB for data that exceeds the quota in FY28.

When will the charges for excess data begin and how much will they be?

ITS will waive excess data charges in FY27. Beginning in FY28 (July 1, 2027) any users storing data amounts that exceed the quotas will be charged. 

Rates that will be charged are currently being determined and will be published in FY27 to allow departments to budget accordingly. We will share more information on the rates in future communications.

What you can do now to prepare?

• ITS recommends that you review your cloud storage data now.  If you have already exceeded or are approaching the data limits, consider deleting older files if they are no longer needed to free up space.
