Secure File Transfer is a web-based service that provides faculty, staff, and students with a med.cornell.edu email address a secure and convenient method for sending and receiving large files that exceed standard email attachment size limits. The service can be accessed at transfer.weill.cornell.edu.
Ideally, Secure File Transfer should be used when:
- Files exceed email attachment size limits
- Sensitive or regulated information must be transferred securely
- Sharing files with external partners, like colleagues, researchers, or vendors
- Transferring HIPAA or PII-regulated data in an approved manner
Important note about Secure File Transfer
Secure File Transfer is designed for temporary transactional file sharing, and not meant to store files long-term. Message links sent through Secure File Transfer expire after 14 days. If your account is also inactive in that time, all of your messages are deleted every 30 days.
To securely store and share files within WCM, use Microsoft OneDrive. Sending sensitive information to patients should be conducted through Epic.
