Microsoft Teams supports two types of real-time communication: channel-based collaboration (persistent team workspaces with shared files and chat history) and one-off meetings (ad hoc or scheduled video/audio calls).

Under our institutional license, all WCM faculty, staff, and students receive full-featured Teams access with up to 1,000 participants per meeting and up to 10,000 attendees for Teams Live Events (i.e., town halls and broadcasts).

Teams Live Events & Town Halls

For large-scale broadcasts, Teams offers Live Events and the newer Town Hall format (available in A5). Town Halls support structured Q&A, green room preparation for presenters, and real-time moderation — ideal for all-hands meetings, research symposia, and leadership announcements.

Live Events support up to 10,000 attendees for external-facing broadcasts, with DVR-style recording and attendee reports available after the event.

Recording & Transcription

Meeting recordings are saved automatically to OneDrive (for personal meetings) or SharePoint (for channel meetings). Recordings are available to meeting participants immediately after the call ends.

Automatic transcription and captions are available during meetings. Transcripts are saved alongside recordings for easy review and searchability.

Cost and Fees

Standard Microsoft Teams meetings are available to WCM faculty, staff, and students at no cost.
