Microsoft Teams is a key part of our O365 system and available to all users. It’s a collaboration platform that brings together chat, video meetings, file sharing, and integrated apps — all in one unified workspace. Whether your team works in-office, remotely, or across hybrid environments, Teams ensures everyone stays connected, productive, and aligned.

In addition to the web-based app and desktop client for both Windows and Mac, you can also download Teams to your iOS and Android mobile device to use Teams on the go.

Share and collaborate on files:  Use built-in apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for real-time file collaboration.

Use as virtual phone: Use teams as your virtual office phone (separate IP Phone request and monthly service charge)
Collaborate externally: Chat/collaboration with our tri-partite partners is seamlessly included by default. Other external domains can be requested to be added.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Teams to chat with anyone at WCM?

Yes, everyone in WCM is enabled for Teams.

Can I use Teams to chat with people outside WCM, like NYP staff?

Yes. Members of the tri-partite institutions (WCM, NYP, Columbia) are now enabled for seamless search and collaboration via the MTO federation in Teams.
Members of Qatar, MSKCC, and our Ithaca campus are enabled for federated chat (initiate by entering their email address in a new chat).
Members from other external domains (many are already approved) can be added to your team for collaboration, and can access shared files. Other domains can be requested for approval.

Can I share high-risk data (like HIPAA-protected patient data) through Teams?

Yes. For most regular use cases, especially with other WCM faculty/staff/students, Teams can be used for collaboration on high-risk data. When collaborating with external members, please take care to only share PHI in approved situations.
