Introducing Duo Two-Factor Authentication

ITS is introducing Duo Two-Factor Authentication, a new service which adds an extra layer of security for faculty, staff, and students to help safeguard their data and ITS services. Starting mid-January, Duo will be utilized to better secure myApps and Webmail when you access these sites off campus. 

How does Duo work?

After you set up a Duo account, Duo acts as an extra “checkpoint” to verify your identity when logging into myApps or Webmail from off campus. Duo will send you a notification, typically to your mobile device, asking you to quickly confirm your identity. Again, this only happens when you access these services outside of our network.

Why is ITS implementing Duo?

myApps and Webmail are accessed by our faculty, staff, and students from all over the world. Duo provides another layer of security when outside of an official WCM network and can prevent unauthorized access to your accounts. 

 

How can I enroll in this service?

This service is available free of charge to all faculty, staff, and students. To enroll in Duo, please visit duo.weill.cornell.edu and provide the appropriate information. You can register several devices, including:

  • Mobile phones via app, SMS, or phone call (highly recommended)
  • Tablets via app
  • Landlines via phone call
