i2b2 "Canal Street" Release

What is i2b2?
Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2) enables researchers to query de-identified data from electronic health record (EHR) and research systems of Weill Cornell Medical College to discover cohorts of patients preparatory to research.  With approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB), investigators can obtain identified data, including medical record numbers, for patients of interest.

What’s new in this release?
i2b2 now contains Epic data through November 2015.  Types of data include:

  • Demographics
  • Encounters
  • Vital signs
  • Diagnoses (ICD-9)
  • Procedures (CPT)
  • Medications

Why is “Canal Street” the name of this release?
As a nod to the most heavily-used subway line in New York City, we are naming each release of i2b2 data and features after a stop on the 6 train beginning with Brooklyn Bridge.  This is a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.  The next stop is Spring Street.

How do I learn more about i2b2?
Please join us every Thursday for the CTSC ARCH Workshop in the Samuel J. Wood Library Collaboration Room from 11:00am to 12:00pm. During the workshop, ask experts about i2b2, REDCap, SUPER REDCap, EHR reporting, and additional approaches for obtaining electronic data for research.
