Apple released its new operating system OS X 10.9, also known as Mavericks, on Tuesday, October 22. ITS will be
supporting this new operating system, which comes pre-installed on systems purchased after October 22.
What's new to OS X Mavericks
Apple has added two new applications to OS X, iBooks and Maps.
Apple has also updated the look and feel of many of its own applications including Mail, Calendar, and Finder. You
can also now assign tags to files when you save in order to help you organize and find files quicker.
Recommendation for Mavericks upgrade
ITS recommends not upgrading to Mavericks until we can
verify that all supported software and services are compatible. With any operating system upgrade, there can be
initial incompatibilities with ITS-supported software and services, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and
Microsoft Exchange email and calendar. Please be aware that OS X Mavericks may be incompatible with non-standard
WCMC software you have installed, such as EndNote, FileMaker Pro, MATLAB, and others. Please confirm with the vendor
that your non-standard software will work with OS X Mavericks.
ITS will announce when we have completed our testing and it is acceptable to upgrade. For non-standard software such
as EndNote, you can visit the vendor's website or find information on this site and search for the application in
question: Roaring Apps.
Please note: It is customary for various vendors to take 30 to 60 days before they fully support their products upon
release of a new operating system.
