Internet Explorer 8 Advisory

The most recent major version of Internet Explorer (IE) available is Internet Explorer 8. Microsoft has announced the End of Life (EOL) for IE 6 to be July 13, 2010. This decision has prompted more and more external sites, including Google, YouTube, and ESPN to drop on-going support for Internet Explorer 6. Upon visiting many of these sites, users may be prompted to upgrade to this latest version.

Even though critical web-based clinical and business applications such as SAP and GE Centricity Business have been certified by their respective vendors for compatibility with Internet Explorer 7, they have not been certified with Internet Explorer 8. At this time, we strongly encourage users not to upgrade from IE 6, as you will be prompted to IE 8. As soon as ITS has received confirmation from our vendors that IE8 is support, the update will be rolled out throughout the college via the SMS service.

Users who opt to prematurely upgrade to IE 8 may have limited or reduced functionality in the following applications:

As these applications have not been certified by the vendor, please be advised that ITS will not be able to provide support if you experience issues using Internet Explorer 8 on ITS-supported machines and applications.
