It is my great pleasure to announce the appointment of David Lifka as the Director of Research Computing for Weill Cornell. Dr. Lifka is currently the Director of the Cornell Center for Advanced Computing and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Computing and Information Science. He will split his time between New York City and Ithaca expanding the ITS service offerings dedicated to research and building new linkages between the two campuses.
Dr. Lifka is a High Performance Computing (HPC) industry veteran with twenty years experience in management and technology leadership positions at Cornell and Argonne National Laboratory. His areas of expertise include sustainable models for academic research computing facilities, parallel job scheduling and resource management systems, data management, high throughput systems, and Web services. His scheduling technologies have been commercially licensed by industry and he has received a ComputerWorld/Smithsonian award for innovations in IT. He earned a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology and serves on a number of academic and corporate advisory boards.
