Update on OS X Mavericks

ITS has tested all major WCMC services with Apple's new operating system, OS X Mavericks. Based on our findings, there seem to be no compatibility issues with the majority of services ITS provides, such as email and calendar (Microsoft Outlook) services, and other applications, such as Epic, VDI, and Weill Business Gateway.

Although ITS supports Apple Mail and iCal, we highly recommend using Microsoft Outlook or Webmail (outlook.med.cornell.edu) for your email and calendar. We have received reports of Apple Mail and iCal not syncing properly with our Microsoft Exchange email system. These are widely reported issues that are not exclusive to WCMC.

Additionally, we have uncovered an issue with a specific server through the Finder. Departments that use the elearn-docs.weill.cornell.edu/feed-edit/ server may experience difficulties gaining access. However, we are currently working to resolve this issue.

What do you need to do?
You are free to upgrade your Mac device to OS X Mavericks.

Before you upgrade:

  1. Check your available hard drive space. The Mavericks installer file is approximately 5.3GB. If your hard drive is close to capacity, we recommend cleaning out older files you no longer need to accommodate the new OS.
  2. Back up your data. Before upgrading to OS X Mavericks, please back up your data by following these instructions based on your current OS. You can check which OS version you have by clicking on the Apple icon on the top left corner of your screen and selecting "About this Mac," then selecting "More Info."
  3. Ensure your non-standard applications are compatible. If you use non-standard WCMC applications on your Mac that you installed yourself, it is important that you check with the application vendors on whether these services are compatible with OS X Mavericks. You can also visit Roaring Apps and search for your application compatibility there. (Please note it is customary for various vendors to take 30 to 60 days before they fully support their products upon release of a new operating system.)
