ITS is now supporting Windows 10 devices, the latest operating system offered by Microsoft. In addition, we will also be supporting Windows 7 until further notice.
How will this affect you?
Purchasing new computers: As of December 19, 2016, any new Windows device purchased through ITS Procurement will arrive with the Windows 10 operating system installed.
For users who need Windows 7 on a new device: if you require Windows 7 on a new device for compatibility purposes, our Service Desk technicians can downgrade your operating system. When you put in a request at myits.med.cornell.edu to connect your device, please note in the Requestor Comments section that you would like ITS to install Windows 7 on your device. A technician will follow up with your request.
For existing Windows 7 users: You can continue to use this operating system until further notice. You may request an upgrade by submitting a request to the Service Desk and an ITS representative will let you know if your system meets the requirements, and will schedule the upgrade as necessary.
Regarding Department Applications: Please work with your vendors should you use a specialized application to ensure it works on Windows 10 prior to upgrading and or purchasing a new system.
