How to transfer files from Dropbox

Dropbox is a third-party file storage application that is not supported by ITS. Faculty, staff, and students should not use Dropbox to store or share institutional and/or sensitive data, and instead use one of our supported and secure solutions: Box, Microsoft OneDrive, and Microsoft SharePoint.

If you currently have any institutional data stored in Dropbox, please transfer the files to a supported service as soon as possible using the steps below:

Preferred method: Drag-and-drop transfers

1. Log into your Dropbox account and download the files to your computer

2. Log into one of your WCM accounts: Box, OneDrive, or SharePoint

3. Drag and drop the files from your computer to one of your WCM file storage accounts.

Alternative method for larger transfers

For larger data transfers, particularly from Box, the drag-and-drop method may not be feasible. In these cases, we recommend using a third-party tool like CloudMounter. CloudMounter allows you to mount both Dropbox and Box as drives on your desktop. You can then copy and paste files directly between services.

Please note that while CloudMounter is a useful tool, it is not officially supported by ITS. Please ensure you are handling data securely, and do not share any sensitive data in CloudMounter.
