Info for Mac users: Issues with latest Office update

If you are a Mac user who has seen a notification on your ITS-tagged computer to update to Microsoft Office 2011 Version 14.5.0, we strongly recommend that you not install the update. The update can disable your Outlook desktop client.

How will this affect you?
If you install the update, your main email window could disappear and you may not be able to send or receive emails.

What do you need to do?
If you have not installed the update:

  • Please do not install the update until Microsoft issues a fixed update.

If you have already installed the update and are experiencing issues with Outlook:

  • If you have a backup (e.g., Time Machine), please delete the newly-updated Microsoft Office 2011 folder in your Applications and restore the old version (14.4.9 or the last version you backed up). If you are not sure how to do this, please contact the Service Desk for assistance.

  • If you cannot view WCMC email in your Outlook desktop client and require immediate access, log into o365.med.cornell.edu.
