1,150 attendees visit largest SMARTFest to date

Our 5th Annual SMARTFest on February 1 welcomed approximately 1,150 attendees, making it our largest and most successful SMARTFest since its inception. The event, held in the Samuel J. Wood Library, promotes emerging tech and helpful services for WCM faculty, staff, and students.

Aside from the usual trade-show style format in which attendees could walk up to the experts and ask about services, we had several new features this year:

  • Introduction of the Scientific Software Suite featuring tools like MacVector, IPA, and GeneSpring
  • A town hall to answer questions about the future of IT at WCM
  • Free professional headshots taken by our Art & Photo division
  • New WCM ID cards were issued on site for attendees who needed the updated version

We also had new vendors to add to the mix this year, including Gemini Consulting and Services, Lexicomp, Code 42, and Jenzabar (a full list of sponsors is available on the SMARTFest website).

The inaugural SMARTFest was held as a celebration of a successful first year of the SMARTDesk in the Library Commons. Since then, SMARTFest has evolved into a larger outreach to assist the WCM community with solutions to day-to-day tasks and major initiatives.
