Zoom available May 15 to replace WebEx

ITS will be retiring our current online collaboration tool WebEx on June 15, 2017, and will be offering Zoom as WCM’s online and video conferencing service. Zoom will officially launch on May 15, 2017. You currently hold a WebEx host account, so we encourage you to familiarize yourself with Zoom now to ensure a smooth transition. 

Zoom, like WebEx, offers online meetings and webinars. Features include desktop sharing, personal rooms, live chat and more. 

  • Zoom is available at no additional cost to all WCM staff, faculty, students, and campus associates with a valid CWID 
  • Zoom meetings are limited to 100 participants. If you need to host a larger meeting submit a request for a Larger Meeting license via myHelpdesk, which allows for up to 300 participants in a meeting.
  • Zoom webinars have the same functionality as WebEx Meeting Center and Event Center meetings. There is no minimum size for a webinar, and up to 500 can attend. If you would like to host a Webinar, submit a request for a Webinar License via myHelpdesk. Webinars can accommodate up to 500 attendees.

I have recordings stored on WebEx. What should I do?
If you would like to keep recordings that are currently saved in WebEx you will need to download them from the WebEx environment as soon as possible. WebEx recordings will no longer be available after June 15, 2017.

  • Recording in Zoom: The new Zoom service allows you to record your sessions and save directly to your desktop as an MP4. Visit the Zoom site for more information on how to record a Zoom meeting. Note: Recordings for WCM Zoom can only be stored locally on your device, and references in Zoom documentation to cloud recording do not apply.
  • After you export your recordings and confirm they are safely stored, please delete them from WebEx
  • If you do not want your WebEx recordings, please delete them from your WebEx account
