Should I upgrade to the new macOS High Sierra 10.13?

Yes, feel free to upgrade to the latest version, but please note the exceptions below:

ITS is hosting another Transcribathon on Thursday, October 5! Volunteers help us access scans of original, handwritten medical records from the 19th century, and transcribe and edit them in Word documents. Designated event coordinators will be on hand to answer questions and provide guidance on how the transcriptions should be formatted.

After releasing iOS 11, Apple and Microsoft have uncovered an issue with the Mail app. Users are sporadically unable to send or reply to email and an error appears stating “The server rejected the message.” ITS has confirmed the issue and is recommending to postpone upgrading to iOS 11 until Apple and Microsoft resolve this issue. 

Please note: This only applies to iPhone or iPads upgraded to iOS 11.  You are not impacted if you are running a lower version of iOS, or are accessing your mail from your computer or the web. 

This week, the security research firm Armis Labs announced a new critical security vulnerability affecting Bluetooth-enabled devices. The vulnerability, aptly known as BlueBorne, “spreads through the air” (no physical contact with the device is required) and may allow an attacker to take control of a device using Bluetooth wireless technology.

This vulnerability affects Bluetooth-equipped Windows computers, Android and iOS tablets and smartphones, and Linux computers.

Apple has announced its latest mobile devices and operating system:

• iPhone 8 and 8 Plus - Available for pre-order on September 15
• iPhone X - Available for pre-order October 27
• iOS 11 - Available September 19

ITS has been rigorously testing the new version of iOS to ensure its compatibility with applications used at WCM.

Last week, news outlets reported a major security breach at Equifax, one of the three major credit bureaus. Reports indicate personal information was exposed for approximately 143 million American consumers.
