Get EndNote before RefWorks is retired!

Get EndNote before RefWorks is retired!

RefWorks, used for online research management and writing, will officially be retired as a library-supported service on December 31. In lieu of using RefWorks, the Samuel J. Wood Library recommends using EndNote.

What is EndNote?

EndNote is an application that automates the task of locating full text files online by using bibliographic data stored in the reference. Once found, EndNote downloads and attaches the PDF to the reference. EndNote uses several methodologies when searching for the full text of scholarly journal articles and conference proceedings. Depending on the subject area and how recently an item was published, this feature can work for more than half of your citations.

How can I get a copy of EndNote?

There are two ways to use EndNote at no cost if you are a faculty member, employee, or student at WCM:

  1. Request to have it installed on your device. If you’d prefer the EndNote desktop client, you can visit the SMARTDesk in the library. Note that your device must be  tagged and you will need an up-to-date library registration. Additionally, you can create a ticket to have EndNote installed on your desktop.
  2. Register an account with EndNote Web. Visit MyEndNoteWeb and register for an account if you prefer to use the web version. When setting up your account for the first time, you must be on the WCMC network or connected via WebVPN.

If you’d like a personal copy of EndNote for your home computer, you can purchase a discounted version at OnTheHub.

How do I use EndNote?

You have a few options here! ITS and the Library host EndNote demonstrations on a monthly basis during Tech Tuesdays. Keep an eye out for our Tech Tuesday schedules that we send via email, and post on the Events calendar and the ITS website

Our Library staff has also archived some webinar recordings and helpful information on their website. You can also email infodesk@med.cornell.edu for assistance.

WebEx now available for online meetings

ITS recently launched WebEx Meeting Center for WCM faculty and staff. WebEx is ideal for meetings with more than 20 people, or if you have more than three attendees from outside WCM.

With WebEx, you can:

  • Share documents, applications, or your desktop in real time and let others do the same
  • Use WebEx on Windows or Mac and with all popular browsers
  • Download the WebEx app on your iPhone or iPad, Android device or any Wi-Fi or 3G mobile device and call into meetings on the go.

Anyone can attend a WebEx meeting at no cost, whether they are affiliated with WCM or not. A host account allows you to create meetings and invite attendees, and costs $15 per month – much less than the cost of buying your own WebEx plan.

How do I request a host account?
To request a WebEx account you can submit a request via myHelpdesk. Just sign in with your WCM credentials, click Submit a Request, and fill out a request for WebEx Meeting Center.
