If you have ever passed through the doors of Samuel J Wood Library, you have likely been greeted by Loretta Merlo, Manager of Access Services, or one of her welcoming staff. It's also likely that she gave you a hug, asked what you were working on, and suggested helpful resources to further your project. Loretta joined Weill Cornell Medicine nearly 40 years ago as a circulation clerk when she was making her way as a opera singer in New York, and has been providing frontline support for patrons ever since.  

Effective immediately, ITS has reduced the hours of our SMARTDesk located in the Wood Library at 1300 York Avenue. Hours will now be Monday – Friday, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please note that our SMARTDesk at 575 Lexington Avenue remains closed at this time.  

While Zoom has proven to be an excellent tool for collaboration across WCM, we’re facing a new threat called “zoombombing”. Malicious parties are finding Zoom links – sometimes just guessing random meeting IDs – and joining meetings to disrupt them, often with offensive materials. This problem is not exclusive to Zoom – all online meetings can be compromised if not properly secured.

ITS is pleased to introduce Submission Progress in the Human Subjects module of the Weill Research Gateway (WRG). If you are a researcher at Weill Cornell Medicine, chances are you’ve interacted with the Weill Research Gateway (WRG), a centralized platform for research administration at the College. Meet Vanessa Blau, the Associate Director of Research Administrative Computing, who took seventeen disparate systems and integrated them into what we now know as WRG.   

575 SMARTDesk Closure

Effective immediately, our SMARTDesk at 575 Lexington Avenue has temporarily closed. WCM faculty, staff, and students seeking IT support can visit the SMARTDesk at 1300 York in the Wood Library, or use one of our other support methods, including myHelpdesk and our Service Desk phone line at 212-746-4878. ITS will send out another message when the SMARTDesk at 575 reopens.  

Cynthia Morel, Manager of Performance and Compliance for the Educational Technologies Group, has always had a personal commitment to the fields of healthcare and education. This dedication drew her to her role with Weill Cornell Medicine nearly five years ago, and informs her daily work improving operations and implementing projects that support teaching and learning at the College. Cynthia recently became a triple-Cornell alumni when she earned her MBA/MS in Healthcare Leadership from WCM, graduating in the inaugural class of this rigorous program.
