The following changes in ITS support services are effective on Monday, July 6: 

Expanded hours at the SMARTDesk

The SMARTDesk at the Wood Library will now be open five days a week, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Please note that appointments are still required to visit the SMARTDesk. You can make an appointment online for a time that fits your schedule. 

The SMARTDesk at 575 Lexington remains closed until further notice.

FI Month End Closing Schedule June 2020

All Grant JV's requiring upload or release by Accounting must be received by/submitted to General Accounting no later than 12 pm on 7/14/2020. Entries submitted after the deadline will be posted to the following month.

All other JV's requiring upload or release by General Accounting must be received by/submitted to General Accounting no later than 12 pm on 7/15/2020.

Accounting Close for June is 7/16/2020.

All incurred P-Card transactions will be available daily

Our maintenance on the Weill Research Gateway (WRG) is now complete and the site is accessible.

Conflicts of Interest (COI) changes

Based on faculty feedback, the Conflicts Office has streamlined the questions and simplified the COI survey. These changes have been reflected in our existing guides:  

ITS is unifying the ways you download Weill Cornell Medicine institutional software. On June 15, 2020, IBM BigFix on Windows devices, Self Service on Macs, and WCM Apps on smartphones and tablets will all move to a single name and shared icon: the WCM App Store.

Microsoft has announced plans to retire Skype for Business next year, and in response ITS will phase it out by July 1st. If you haven’t switched over to Teams yet, now is the time. We recommend that you prepare for the transition away from Skype for Business now by getting started with Teams for online chat and collaboration, and Zoom for video conferencing. 

Zoom meetings at WCM currently have a “Call Me” feature which allows a meeting attendee to receive a phone call from Zoom when joining a meeting. As of June 20th, the “Call Me” feature will be disabled for WCM Zoom meetings. 

Use of this feature has spiked in recent months, along with the overall spike in Zoom usage. While the feature is convenient, we are unfortunately incurring tens of thousands of dollars in excess costs which are hard to justify at this time.

Yesterday, the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a public service announcement to raise awareness of attacks against institutions conducting COVID-19-related research.

The FBI is investigating attacks against US organizations originating from China that have been observed attempting to steal intellectual property and other sensitive data related to COVID-19 research.
