Saadia Malik, one of our Senior Liaisons, is the walking definition of a mover and shaker – not only at WCM, but in her community. For the last eight years, she has developed relationships across departments with the goal of ensuring our users’ needs are met and finding solutions to how we can better support our faculty, staff, and students.

Due to an increase in our remote workforce during COVID-19, ITS launched a revised data attestation process the morning of April 14th. Roughly 4,500 WCM faculty and staff have received an automated email notification from ITS Communications with the subject line Remote Work Attestation – ACTION REQUIRED.

Not everyone at WCM will need to complete this attestation. If you did not receive this email, you do not need to complete the attestation at this time.

During her six years at WCM, Library Director Terrie Wheeler has sought to transform the Samuel J. Wood Library so it remains on the cutting edge of education and research. Her years of experience at esteemed institutions –  like the National Institutes of Health Library, Gorgas Memorial Library, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Naval Medical Research Center, and the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) – have provided Terrie special insight into how libraries can support researchers and physicians.

Effective Monday, April 13, ITS has further reduced the hours of our SMARTDesk located in the Wood Library at 1300 York Avenue. The SMARTDesk will now be open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. The SMARTDesk will not be staffed on Tuesday and Thursdays. 

Please note that our SMARTDesk at 575 Lexington Avenue remains closed at this time.

If you have ever passed through the doors of Samuel J Wood Library, you have likely been greeted by Loretta Merlo, Manager of Access Services, or one of her welcoming staff. It's also likely that she gave you a hug, asked what you were working on, and suggested helpful resources to further your project. Loretta joined Weill Cornell Medicine nearly 40 years ago as a circulation clerk when she was making her way as a opera singer in New York, and has been providing frontline support for patrons ever since.

While Zoom has proven to be an excellent tool for collaboration across WCM, we’re facing a new threat called “zoombombing. Malicious parties are finding Zoom links – sometimes just guessing random meeting IDs – and joining meetings to disrupt them, often with offensive materials. This problem is not exclusive to Zoom – all online meetings can be compromised if not properly secured.

Meet Vanessa Blau, the Associate Director of Research Administrative Computing, who took seventeen disparate systems and integrated them into what we now know as WRG.
