EMERSE (Electronic Medical Record Search Engine) is a web application that identifies groups of patients based on important concepts mentioned in their clinical notes and other free-text documents. For example, EMERSE could identify all patients who had a mention of the term "triple-negative breast cancer" in any note in the electronic health record.

A recent class action lawsuit claims that in April 2024 hackers stole the personal information of 3 billion people, including every single existing Social Security number, in a data breach of the background check company National Public Data (NPD).

The bad news: Every American is at risk of having their identity stolen.
