Mozilla has announced that Firefox 3 for Windows and Mac is available.

The software will be tested and certified sometime after August 15th. As such, ITS recommends WCMC faculty, staff, and students not to download Firefox 3. The browser has not been certified for ITS' desktop environment; consequently, you may encounter technical issues.

This notification is intended for users of laptops running Windows XP or Windows 2000 that connect to the WCMC wireless network using the Odyssey wireless network client. This will not affect Mac users.

Effective March 14th 2008, ITS is providing limited qualification of Leopard for use within Weill Cornell Medical College. In short, this allows newly purchased machines with Leopard to be tagged and connected to the network, as well as allow for existing machines to be upgraded upgraded under our Apple Maintenance Program agreement. However, ITS will only be providing limited support for users opting to upgrade or run Leopard, as there are known unresolved issues.

The Information Technologies & Services Department (ITS) is pleased to announce a new service called Technology Education And Computer Help (TEACH).

TEACH is a training program offering Weill Cornell employees the opportunity to develop their computer skills. The courses offered through this program are based on the applications and services provided by ITS. Through the TEACH program, ITS hopes to better understand the training needs of the WCMC community and support the success of the Medical College.

ITS has observed recent attempts to "phish", or fraudulently acquire, user names and passwords for members of the WCMC community, as well as the main Ithaca campus. These messages often feature subject lines such as "Confirm Your E-mail Address", and invite the user to "verify" their account by emailing their password or clicking on a link to a web page allegedly run by ITS or CIT.

The Information Technologies and Services Department (ITS) has certified the use of Adobe Acrobat Reader 8 on ITS tagged computers. This version is now required for the Grants.gov service to apply for grant applications.

This certification does not replace or change the availability of Acrobat 7 Standard. ITS has been unable to obtain similar licensing terms with Adobe to provide Acrobat 8 Professional to the WCMC community.

The Information Technologies and Services Department (ITS) is now providing access for all Weill Cornell Medical College faculty, staff, and students to Gartner's technology research. The GartnerWeb portal is available at gartnerweb.med.cornell.edu.

College users may access the research from any on-campus location, or through remote access services such as WebVPN. Users must use through the ITS-provided portal to access the research; login is not allowed directly from gartner.com.

Re: ITS to upgrade Listserv service, January 20

ITS will be upgrading the Listserv service on Sunday January 20, 2008: http://listserv.med.cornell.edu. The upgrade will feature a new and improved Listserv web management tool; in addition, ITS created an interactive web training tool for the new interface and an extensive list of commonly asked questions. The upgrade will not affect any existing email lists or login information.

Update: Sources from the Macworld Expo have indicated that Microsoft Office 2008 will be available to enterprise customers no sooner than February 1st. Please note that ITS will not be releasing the software for WCMC users until after it has been qualified some time in early February.

Microsoft has announced that Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac OS X will be released on January 15th, 2008.
